Sharing this not to get into any sniping war about Google vs Apple (in any arena, not just maps), but for the insight the article provides into the complexity of providing maps, and the benefits of long-term strategic investment and planning about how to take massive amounts of data and aggregate them into useful information.
In this case, it’s about Google taking not just map and address info, but Street View and satellite data to provide a variety of details and location aggregation work that really makes Google Maps an increasingly useful tool.
Very cool stuff, though quite a lot of comparison animated GIFs.
